Calculator (Doubling number of Multipication)

Dr Leong mentioned about how to use calculator in Developing Mental Computation in Maths

For My task: Explain how to use Multiplication in Doubling Number

Doubling number is using calculator in constants multiplication. Example 2 x 3 = = = until display passed 500.

Answers:

Use Writing on Whiteboard:

2 x 3 = 6
6x 3 = 18
18 x 3 = 54
54 x 3 = 162
162 x 3 = 486

**Multiplication of 3 is Doubling Number

Using Calculator:

Step 1: Press 2
Step 2: Pres 3
Step 3: Press"="
Answer will 6

**Press "=" continue the doubling number of 3

Week 13 - Virtual Experiment and Concept Map

Topic: FRICTION

Tasks:
1. Choose one Virtual From BBC - KS2 Bitesize.
Click the link -->
http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/ks2bitesize/science/physical_processes/friction/play.shtml

2. Create a Concept Map

3. Create a Questions ("Must Do", Should Do" and "Could Do")

Intoduction of FRICTION :

Friction is a force between two surfaces that are sliding, or trying to slide, across each other. Friction always slow a moving object down. Air resistance is a type of friction.

Week 12 - Virtual Experiment Science (Group Work)

Group member:
Mohammad Helme Bin Panjang-10D0018
Muhammad Najib Bin Hj Maidin-10D0013

Name of experiment: FRICTION

1) Please CLICK HERE to try an experiment of friction.

The experiment is about to choose a type of track with lower friction.

2) Friction is a force between two surfaces that are sliding, or trying to slide, across each other. Friction always slows a moving object down. Air resistance is a type of friction. The amount of friction depends on the materials from which the two surfaces are made. Friction also produces heat, can be a useful force and sometimes we want to reduce friction for some purpose.

3) From the experiments, students can learn there is a different amount of friction on different types of surface. Students also learn that friction affect the distance travel of an object in different types of surface.

What mathematics do you teach or use in your work/life?Do you use technology?

Subject taught: Commercial studies, Commerce word processing, Clerical office skills and Typingskills. I taught for the lower, upper secondary and as well as menengah vocational level.

In Commercial studies refers to a whole range activities that are involved with the making, buying, selling and distribution of goods and services. I do teach maths in my commercial studies subject for example topic banking and finance on how to calculate bank loan, investment banking etc. Therefore, we are not only use maths in school but it is everywhere even in our daily activity we do use maths.

In term of technology, I always used technology in my teaching especially word processing and typing skills subject.  In the other hand, for my commercial studies subject I more prefer on "chalk and talk" and using student centered system for example group project, activity, group discussion and critical thinking. I only used technology when it comes to topic that relate with technology. For instance online banking, I will show my students using Internet on how the online banking works. In addition, sometimes I do used a ‘’youtube’s’’ website to show them some videos that relate with our topic. By showing them a video it can help the students to understand more rather than let them imagine or think how those things work.
